      Q: What happens if a Landlord fails to obtain an HMO licence?

      Letting an unlicensed HMO is a criminal offence. Penalties include:-

      A civil penalty of up to £30,000.00 per offence;

      Prosecution and an unlimited fine;

      Rent Repayment Orders (RROs) of up to 12 months rent;

      Restrictions on using Section 21 notice.
